The Projects Magazine Issue 2 Volume 2

Welcome to the second issue of Volume 2. The publication is growing in leaps and bounds as we continue to deliver critical content to you, bringing you the latest news, cutting-edge developments and insights in engineering, mining, construction, energy, property development and manufacturing sectors.

In this edition, we have zeroed in on several citizen economic empowerment programs
announced by Debswana—Botswana’s biggest mining company—in this second quarter of 2022.

This entails among others the recently announced partnership between the company and state-owned Botswana Oil Limited.

The P8 billion deal will localise Debswana’s fuel supply and transportation contracts
to citizen owned companies while Botswana Oil will capacitate the beneficiary companies, in the process ensuring security of supply and creating jobs and countless value chain opportunities.

This feeds into Debswana’s Citizen Economic Empowerment Program (CEEP)
which intends to unlock P20 billion in shared value for local businesses and create 20 000 jobs by 2024.

Debswana has also overhauled its asset management strategy, introducing an in-house hybrid maintenance model that will see deserving citizen owned maintenance companies line-up for P100 million worth of contracts from Debswana.

We have also featured some key developments at the Giyani Metals’ K.Hill manganese project in Kanye, where work is underway to set up Botswana’s first commercial manganese mining operation.

Giyani is moving swiftly to transition the project into construction phase with a demo plant currently developed in South Africa, to be transported to Kanye for commissioning next year.

The manganese project is a massive undertaking that cultivates and
feeds into Botswana’s green energy transition and electric vehicle ambitions.

Conversations are already underway around taking advantage of the anticipated local manganese production by setting up beneficiation industries in the form of battery
manufacturing facilities for both local and export market.

This and many other exciting stories are featured in this edition. Take a moment, indulge and learn about countless opportunities that await you in these critical sectors of the economy. #Things_are_ happening
