FCC partners with Italian firm to commercialise waste management projects

FRANCISTOWN CITY COUNCIL PARTNERS WITH ITALIAN FIRM TO SET UP FERTILIZER PLANT

The City of Francistown Council (COFC) and Italy-based AMA Future of Africa recently entered into a partnership to promote local economic development through waste management projects.

A statement from Ministry of Local Government has revealed that the pact follows the Virtual Local Economic Development Investment Facilitation Fair organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Botswana Association of Local Authorities and Commonwealth Local Government Forum in March 2021, which attracted prospective investors across the world.

The partnership with AMA Future of Africa will focus on catalytic project, aimed at developing value chain on solid waste management.

During Phase I of the project, the two partners will produce plastic granules, bio-diesel, fertilizers and other products in the agricultural sector using available local resources. The project will promote economic growth, help mitigate climate change and create jobs in Francistown.

The partnership presents opportunities on sustainable, environmentally sound and cost-effective waste management practices as well as diversification and growth of local economy.
