The Okavango Diamond Company (ODC) Board of Directors has visited KGK Diamonds Botswana to assess its contribution to the country’s diamond beneficiation and downstream industry.
Operating in Botswana for over a decade, KGK is involved in diamond cutting and polishing, as well as jewellery manufacturing. The company employs approximately 480 people, predominantly Batswana, making it an important contributor to local employment and skills development.
During the visit, the Board toured the manufacturing facilities and was introduced to KGK’s sustainability and empowerment initiatives, including solar energy integration, rainwater harvesting and the KGK Diamond Training Academy, which equips young people with specialised industry skills.
The company also provides employment opportunities for deaf individuals, operates an on-site daycare and nursery school, and runs an incubation programme supporting citizen-owned businesses and aspiring diamantaires seeking entry into the diamond value chain.
ODC said the visit reinforced the importance of partnerships across the diamond value chain in ensuring Botswana derives greater economic value from its natural resources through job creation, skills transfer, entrepreneurship and sustainable development.
