MDCB rolls out Project Thobo with three new companies to boost mining investmemt

– Establishes Three Entities in Exploration, Investment, and Mineral Development

-The companies are : Exploration Investment Company Botswana, Mineral InvestmentCompany Botswana, and Khumo Minerals Botswana.

The Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Kenewendo, has announced that, as part of its mandate to strengthen Botswana’s mining sector, the state-owned Minerals Development Company Botswana (MDCB) is launching Project Thobo. This strategic initiative aims to operationalize three new companies focused on exploration, investment, and mineral development.

In her Committee of Supply Statement to Parliament, Kenewendo highlighted the three key entities: Exploration Investment Company Botswana, Mineral Investment Company Botswana, and Khumo Minerals Botswana.

She emphasized that these companies are crucial to shaping the long-term trajectory of Botswana’s mining sector, ensuring sustainable growth, attracting enhanced investment, and optimizing mineral resources.

To support this process, a consultant has been engaged to facilitate the operationalization of these entities. “I am pleased to report that work is progressing effectively across all workstreams, in alignment with the established strategic roadmap. The execution is on track to be completed within the current financial year, reinforcing MDCB’s commitment to delivering on this critical national priority,” said Kenewendo.

Furthermore, MDCB is expanding its portfolio to include critical minerals. Kenewendo shared, “Two new assets are expected to be added to our portfolio in the coming period. MDCB firmly believes that Botswana has immense mineral potential and continues to pursue opportunities in line with its mandate.
