Debswana production inthe first six month of 2021 rose by 43 % to 10.7 million carats from 7.5 million carats in the first six months of 2020 as production was increased in response to stronger prevailing demand.
Production at Jwaneng increased by 44% to 6.3 million carats from 4.3 million carats in first half 2020 and production at Orapa increased by 41% to 4.4 million carats from 3.1 million carats, despite the impact of heavy rainfall at the beginning of the year.
Debswana accounted for over 69 % of De Beers Rough diamond global production bringing to the table 10.7 million carats of De Beers 15.4 million carats global production.
De Beers rough diamond production increased by 37% to 15.4 million carats from 11.3 million carats in the first half of 2020, primarily due to the lower levels of production in the first half of 2020 resulting from Covid-19 related shutdowns and the response to the resultant reduced demand owing to the pandemic.
