The Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA) and the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening investor due diligence and safeguarding Botswana’s investment environment.
This is a move expected to reinforce confidence in the country’s Special Economic Zones (SEZ) programme.
The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today, establishing a framework for enhanced security vetting, information sharing, investor screening and risk management.
The agreement was signed by SEZA Acting Chief Executive Officer, Goabaone Masike, and DIS Acting Director General, Aobakwe Monamo, alongside members of their respective executive teams.
The partnership is expected to strengthen SEZA’s capacity to identify and license credible, high-quality investors by incorporating security intelligence and risk assessment into its investment facilitation processes.
Through DIS’s expertise in identifying potential security threats, the collaboration seeks to protect the integrity of Botswana’s investment ecosystem.
It will also ensure that investors operating within designated economic zones meet the necessary credibility and security considerations.
Beyond security considerations, the agreement carries broader economic significance as Botswana seeks to position itself as a competitive investment destination.
A secure and transparent investment environment is critical to attracting sustainable capital, protecting national economic interests and supporting long-term investor confidence.
The collaboration also aligns with Botswana’s economic diversification ambitions, particularly efforts to stimulate job creation, facilitate technology transfer and promote sustainable economic growth through increased investment in strategic sectors.
The partnership underscores the growing importance of institutional collaboration in balancing investment promotion with national security and economic protection.
