Vice President and Minister of Finance, Ndaba Gaolathe, has called for a fundamental shift in Botswana’s development financing model, emphasising the need to mobilise private and institutional capital to drive economic diversification and growth.
Speaking at the inaugural Botswana Investment Forum 2026, he said declining diamond revenues and growing fiscal pressures require government to move beyond traditional financing models and position itself as a catalyst for investment.
He further called for stronger coordination among development finance institutions, improved project preparation and strategic partnerships to transform investment opportunities into bankable projects, competitive industries and sustainable jobs.
